[Top Tips] Ayurvedic treatment for knee pain- A Holistic approach to Knee pain treatment

In my professional career as a Vaidya, I have seen people of all age groups dealing with knee pain. It all starts early with the weakening of joints that we often ignore for so many years. With our fast paced lives, we ignore our joint pains and think of it as temporary hurdles that can be overcome within a day or two.

As youngsters we start ignoring the early signs and keep the slight joint pains and injury at back burner. As we start aging, the poor condition of joints aggravate and they start showing some major distress signs. These signs can be constant joint pains, trouble with random movements, stiffness, swelling and inflammation around them. This situation also takes the shape of permanent disease form such as Arthritis etc.

As time passes, we accept the painful condition of joints as a part of our lives and start living a more compromised life. We start becoming less and less active, suffer during seasonal changes and develop more lifestyle diseases because of this.

It’s hard for us to accept that it starts at a very young age when we ignore the early signs of toxicity in our body. This negligence turns to a more severe and irreversible situation when we grow older.

According to Ayurveda “The weakening of Joints are caused due to the accumulation of Ama (toxins)’’. With this prolonged aggregation of toxins, the joints are inflamed and lose strength overtime. Similar is the case with knee joint.

The main underlying cause of this knee pain can be an injury, sudden injury, an overuse injury, infection, dislocated kneecap, and tendonitis or inflammatory conditions such as arthritis to name a few.

Some people of old age lose the elasticity of bones which causes the bones to become stiff and restricts the movement around the knee area. Thereby it causes knee pain and swelling.

If you are using the modern allopathic treatment, that focuses on pain management on a superficial level. It does not treat the main cause of knee pain for long-lasting benefits.

In my opinion, people with Knee pain can benefit a lot from the use of Ayurvedic Treatment. Ayurveda is an age-old science of herbs that is time tested and has no side effects for the end-user.

Ayurvedic treatment for knee pain can be focused on two types of problems:

  • Weak Joints and Bones

This happens when you have weak and poorly nourished joints. This can lead to abrupt cracking or gradual discomfort in the knees. This can also render the knee to eventually immobilize over a period of time. The density of the bone also decreases which leads to overall weakness in the joint.

  • Toxins

This second situation can occur when you have toxins in your body. Ama also known as toxins get accumulated in the joints and cause stiffness and heaviness in the joints. Prolonged accumulation of toxins (Ama) results in swollen and painful joints
