Tips to Fight Stress with Ayurveda

oIs stress playing a bigger role in your life than you would like it to? For most of us, the answer to that question is a resounding yes! Stress has become part of life for many of us. High levels of stress cause an excessive build-up of free radicals in physiology and can lead to diseases and premature aging. While some stress is appropriate and can even be productive. But do not stress out, Ayurveda has a few essential tips to counteract stress.

Start the day stress-free

It is suggested to make a proper schedule for your whole day, in order to maintain mental, physical, and emotional balance. Vaidya suggests following dincharya (daily routine). When you begin the day with a routine, it sets you up for a stress-free day by helping to keep Vata in balance. Creating a schedule makes it easier to plan your time. Wake up early in the morning, practice yoga in the morning, drink water daily to clear toxins from your body internally, massage your body with oil before taking bath and never skip your meal.

Restore your inner balance

Have you ever experienced that feeling that there is never enough time in the day? This happens because you do not have a proper schedule to follow. You should always wake up early so that you don’t have to rush from one activity to the next during the day. If you have a packed schedule over the long term it may negatively affect your health and disturb your ability to handle all the diversity in our environment. Time-related stress happens because we lose connection with our innermost needs, we chase outer goals and we lose connection with calmness. To reset the clock, you must practice meditation, which allows us to effortlessly re-establish the inner connection. This, in turn, increases our capacity for intuitive thought. As our body, mind, and heart become more integrated, our natural balance is restored and we seem to make better decisions.

Give your body rest

Even if you feel you don’t have time to rest, still take out time and give yourself rest. Our lives evolve, grow, and are sustained through cycles of rest and activity. Cut down some time from your busy workday, eliminate unnecessary steps and try to avoid distraction. These will free up time and energy for more productive work. Simply take out a few minutes, take a walk outside or around your office, look up at the sky or trees blowing in the breeze or just close your eyes and give your body a little rest.

Listen to soft music

Music has a vital effect on your nervous system, mind, and emotions. When you listen to music on a low volume, it relaxes your mind and relaxes the environment around you. Increasing the volume causes noise pollution and increases stress.

Eat to relieve stress

Fruits and veggies truly are a natural medicine. They nourish your body and can go a long way toward relieving stress. Fresh fruits and veggies are rich in antioxidants and they fight back free radical damage, cutting our susceptibility to stress, fatigue, and disease. You must eat according to your constitution. Stress generates free radicals and can host other hormonal changes which may wreak havoc on our minds, emotions, nervous system, heart, and overall immunity. Foods rich in antioxidant content naturally combat free radical damage.

Take a power nap

If you have a hard time falling asleep it can set off a series of unhappy events, low appetite, imbalanced digestion, irritation, and fatigue. Ayurveda suggests, eating a light meal during the night, consuming a well-cooked dinner at least three hours before bed, and involving yourself in relaxing activities such as taking an evening walk, listening to soft music, and calmly preparing your body to sleep. Go to bed around the same time each night. Sound sleep helps balance the mind and emotions.
